HOW DOES QIGONG & TAICHI WORK?

Why practise Taichi or Qigong?

These practices help us to take control of our health by bringing our mind and body back into balance and equilibrium. We reconnect with our ourselves when we practice, calming our mind and allowing our bodies and mind to move into a relaxation mode out of a fight or flight mode. We unfortunately spend most of our time in a Fight or Flight mode where our whole system is just surviving and cannot repair or nourish itself. In a relaxed mode, our bodies can concentrate on nourishing and healing.

How does Taichi and Qigong work?

They both work through our energy or Qi system. Qi is our Life Force energy which we were born with and received from our parents. We also receive energy throughout our lifetime from the air we breathe and the food we eat. Qi powers everything in our bodies – our thoughts, our emotions and all the physical functions of our bodies. It beats our heart, it digests our food, it breathes our lungs. This same energy also powers everything else in the world outside of us – it rotates the earth, it controls the tides.

Depending on how we live our energy system will be healthy or maybe not so healthy. Most of us will have some stagnant or stuck energy due to the stressful life we live, the not so clean air we breathe, the poor food we eat, the lack of exercise in our lives, the frenetic pace we live at – all of which results in our Qi or energy not flowing smoothly throughout our body resulting in discomfort or ill health. Free flowing Qi equates to a healthy body and mind. Both Tai chi and Qigong help our body and mind to recalibrate and come back into balance allowing our Qi to move freely.
